What to expect when you work with an interior designer to update your kitchen

Our client’s dream was to have her kitchen feel more open and inviting for family gatherings and create a classic look that would withstand the test of time. To achieve this we reconfigured the kitchen to remove the peninsula and extend the kitchen into the family room. We added an island that provided additional seating and created a better flow between the rooms.
Since her existing hardwood floors were a warm brown we didn’t want to introduce any other dark colors and used white cabinets to brighten the space and gold hardware to tie in the warm tones of the floors. The focal point of the kitchen is the beautiful curvy white and gold hood that in combination with the warm wood open shelving ties in all the colors of the room.
BEFORE
Our designer made plans for a new layout for better flow between the living room and dining room.
Then she made selections based off the client’s tastes and needs. Since her existing hardwood floors were a warm brown we didn’t want to introduce any other dark colors and used white cabinets to brighten the space and gold hardware to tie in the warm tones of the floors.
We designed new cabinets.
Then we made renderings. We added a narrow kitchen island that wouldn’t encumber the flow from the dining room to the living room. We added decorative doors and molding to the island to give it a more substantial furniture look. We redid the lighting plan and additional lighting and created focal points in the kitchen.
Then we got to work! The backsplash we used was ceramic handmade subway tile with a lot of soft neutral color variation for texture to break up the bright white. In the top of the cabinets we added glass doors and puck lighting in the top cabinets so the client could showcase her decor or specialty platters.
